Dining Room

One of the best parts of childhood is the ability to play for hours on end, using imagination and creativity to pass the hours. There’s really nothing better than having a room dedicated to playing, and it’s also useful for keeping toys and other bits and pieces all in one place too. When designing your little one’s playroom, it’s important to incorporate fun, excitement and practicality to ensure you create the perfect room.

Colours and Themes

When designing the perfect playroom for your little one it’s important to get the right balance, through colour as well as layout. How you decide to decorate the room will have work hand in hand with how your children play as well as learn in the room. Studies show that using colours such as Red, which stimulates excitement, Green, which resembles something fresh and energy, Blue, know to calm and relax, and Orange, ideal for stimulating imagination and creativity, will really help with your child’s learning and playing experiences. Primary colours such as these are also perfect, as they are not targeted at either girls or boys, whereas if you were to design a room purely for your little princess, you may want to stick to the pinks, purples and so on. When it comes to deciding on a theme for your playroom, it’s best to stick to what your children like. Using characters from the television or a movie can be a little risky, as it’s quite likely that your little one will soon move onto a different character once something new and exciting comes out. Storybooks are a great source for a theme idea, for example ‘Three Little Pigs’, ‘A Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ and even things like ‘Goldilocks’ or ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, as all of these are traditional, and you don’t necessarily have to paint the characters, you could just stick to the setting such as the woods or a forest.

Fun and Practical

Practicality is a key element in any room design, especially in a playroom. You want to be able to create a space for your little ones to run free, play to their hearts content and have fun, however you do also need the room to work for you. Having furniture that will benefit you is always important, for example introducing a sofa bed, for those exciting sleepovers or even just as an extra bed when visitors come to stay. Other things such as a bookcase, to store all of the children’s favourite books. If you position a nice comfy chair close by to the bookcase, then you can encourage your child to read independently or at least enjoy sitting and flicking through the pictures! Having features that will encourage learning is also really important, as you can learn so much through play and creating things. Placing a clock in the room is another great way of getting your little one to learn and practice when it comes to telling the time. There are so many ways in which you can incorporate learning with playing in their playroom, without it feeling like a day at school. You could include exciting features such as a chalk or white board for your child to let their creative side out, or even a special den to keep all of the teddy bears and dolls. Having all of the toys in one place is perfect for sparking creativity with your child and also giving them a space of their own to keep tidy and look after.

Keep it Tidy

Storage is one of the most important things to consider with any children’s room. It’s a known fact that as soon as things are tidied away, they’re suddenly all over the floor again. Having a storage solution that can work for you and your children is a good way of ensuring they can help tidy their toys away at the end of the day. Storage devices such as wardrobes with special boxes inside, a small rack of drawers to store little bits and pieces, and other items such as traditional toy boxes or toy baskets. You can really find fun and exciting storage solutions, by incorporating colour and functionality to them. You could even work around a golden star every time your little one tidies all of their toys away at the end of their play time.
