Top 5 Tips for Improving your Guest Bedroom
As people get older, close knit families and friends tend to move away from their roots and spread across the country. A weekly phone call is a good way of staying in touch but sometimes nothing beats face to face contact, particularly if you have a lot to catch up on. One way to encourage friends and family to visit more often is to upgrade your guest room; nothing says youre welcome than a gorgeous, comfortable guest room, and the money that would have otherwise been spent on a hotel can be used for a nice bottle of wine for the evening.
Knowing when the guest room needs improving is one thing, but knowing how to improve it is another. There are dozens of little flourishes and improvements that can be made, but weve compiled our five favourite tips to make it that little bit easier for you.
Pick a colour scheme
A guest room has to cater for all tastes, so a neutral colour scheme can go a long way in providing a relaxing space for all of your guests. Keep the walls and carpet to classic colours like cream, and pick one or two colours for the bedding, curtains and decorative items. Soft, calming colours like blues, pastels and neutrals tend to be the safest bet.
Create a toiletries basket
Toiletries are one of those items that are often forgot about in the packing rush, yet many people can feel funny sharing or asking to borrow them. Providing a little basket of mini toiletries can really help your guest to feel like that you have gone the extra mile, and allows both you and the guest to avoid any awkward situations. Buying lots of mini toiletries can work out to be quite expensive, so we suggest buying bottles and refilling them when they are used up.
Provide fresh bedding and towels
Fresh bedding and towels is a must have for having guests around. The day before your guest arrives, make the bed with clean, fresh bedding and plenty of pillows, and add some clean, folded towels that match the rooms colour scheme. The bedding should include fresh sheets, a duvet, and a throw to give guests the option to increase or decrease their sleeping temperature.
Accessorise
One way to turn a good guest room into a great guest room is by adding small, key accessories to really allow your guest feel at home. Potted plants, scented candles, mirrors, and magazines all provide finishing touches to ensure your guest feels welcome, and helps to improve the ambience of your guest room.
Provide refreshments
No matter how close you and your guest are, they may not feel comfortable helping themselves to your food and drink without asking your permission first. Providing refreshments is a great way to put them at ease and ensure they have everything they need without requiring your assistance. If possible, stock a mini fridge with drinks and fruit alongside a basket with an alcoholic beverage, tea bags, crisps, cereal bars and nuts.
Improving your guest room can often take a back hand, is it may only be used on rare occasions. These tips wont take up much of your time, but will go a long way to provide a home away from home for any of your guests and ensuring they come back time and time again.
