Act quickly to preserve your furniture

As soon as there is a spillage, get the surface of your oak furniture dried off. The surface can absorb liquids and lead to marks. While there are steps you can take to rectify any damage, it’s better to prevent it in the first place. Similarly, if there are any scuffs or gouges which compromise the integrity of your table’s finish, address them straight away. This reseals and protects the wood underneath. You can use special putties and markers to do this. They are available in a range of colours at your local DIY store.

Clean and moisturise

When you buy your new items from Oak Furniture, we will give you specific care instructions to help you get the most out of them. In general, it is advisable to use gentle cleaning agents or just wipe the surface over with a soft cloth. You may also wish to treat the wood on a regular basis with oil or polish. This will stop it drying out and cracking. How often you need to do this depends on the environment. If the room with your furniture is in is particularly hot or dry, you might choose to treat the wood more often.

Move carefully

Our furniture is constructed to the highest standards. If you use our assembly service, you will have your new piece constructed by trained professionals. All this ensures that it is sturdy and correctly fitted to give you many years of use. One of the things that can affect the integrity of the joints and make your furniture less solid is careless movement. For example, if you move your bed around, it can put pressure on the joins and loosen them. Lift furniture to move it whenever possible. If you cannot, place castors or sliders underneath the contact points before moving.
