Post Christmas Clean Up

Happy New Year from Oak Furniture UK! We hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and welcomed the new year in style. With so much happening over the weeks surrounding Christmas is can become very busy and leave you with little time to keep on top of general cleaning routines and everyday odd jobs. With the new year upon us, what better time to give your home a good, thorough clean to welcome 2017 with open arms! Here are a few tips on how you can give your home the cleanse is deserves after such a busy time of the year!

Christmas Decorations

Whether you’re someone who likes to keep the festive spirit alive as long as you possibly can, or you’re keen to put Christmas to bed for another year and start fresh, it’s important to take your decorations down in the first week after Christmas/New Year. The Christmas tree is the first place to start, as by now you’re probably experiencing endless amounts of pine needles scattered across your living room floor. Carefully remove all decorations from your tree and store them away neatly in some boxes. If your decorations are delicate, add some bubble wrap or old towels to the boxes to give them a little extra padding and protection. You then need to put the lights away, and it’s essential that you put these away as neatly as possible to prevent any unwanted tangling or knots in the wires next December.

Once you’ve taken down your Christmas tree, take a look around the house and take down any remaining decorations. Place them neatly in their boxes, again with tissue paper or bubble wrap, and store them away neatly. Don’t forget to check your trees or bushes outside, as the lights outside can be easily forgotten about. Storing your Christmas decorations neatly and safely will ensure you have a pleasant experience next Christmas, as everything will be neat and ready to go again!

Tidy Up

Over the few weeks surrounding Christmas the house can become very, very untidy. With endless amounts of chocolate boxes, new toys, clothing and other items gathering in places they don’t belong, the house can become cluttered and untidy. Give your home a quick tidy up by placing any stray items back where they belong. You’ll notice a huge difference once furniture is placed back where it belongs, boxes have been disposed of and random items of clothing are no longer left placed on the arm of the sofa.

Check for Stains

It’s very common for stains to appear after Christmas and New Year, with large amounts of wine and a variety of sauces, dips and dressings it can be very for small stains to suddenly appear. Check your dining and living spaces for any unwanted stains, as the longer they are left the harder they become to remove. Washing all of the linen, towels and other items that have been used throughout the festive period is also a good idea, as you may not notice any dirt or stains on them now, but they may have slight marks that you don’t want to suddenly notice the next time you put them to use.

Fresh Scents

Once you’ve given your home the thorough clean it deserves, it’s time to put some fresh, bold scents into your interiors. There’s nothing more welcoming and refreshing than a scented candle filling the room with a delicate blend of vanilla or lavender. Similarly, you may want to invest in some new air fresheners or diffusers, positioned neatly on the oak sideboard or coffee table, as these will make your home feel instantly fresh and inviting.
